If you’re like us and can’t believe summer is half over (4th of July, we hardly knew ya!), it’s time to amp up your outdoor adventures and Vitamin D. Here are 5 fun activities around the Philadelphia area that you can enjoy with the family and be back home asleep in your own bed. So buckle up in your Sussman auto and head out. (Some events have admission fees.)
Spruce Street Harbor Park – Pack a lunch or choose from a variety of food trucks from Garces and other local fare during your stay at this seasonal outdoor park. Kids of all ages will be entertained – the little ones in the spray ground, and the older kids will love the mini-arcade, ping pong and shuffleboard. Rent the swan paddle boats for a true land and sea outing.
Wilmington & Western Railroad – Experience the Old West aboard an authentic railroad passenger car. The train makes regular outings, or visit for one of the special events, like the Wild West Robbery re-enactment on July 26th.
Briar Bush Nature Center – Gather ‘round the campfire for a hands-on nature lesson at Hot S’more Nights. Each night, will cover a different aspect of nature, inviting all participants to use all the senses to get in touch with nature.
Nightscape at Longwood Gardens – Summer is for staying up late, and you’re rewarded with a beautiful, immersive lights show at Longwood Gardens. The Nightscape art show using moving images and music to showcase the environments in a truly spectacular way.
Pick Your Own Blueberries – What’s better than stopping by a roadside stand on your way back from the shore? Stopping by the actual farm. July is peak blueberry season, and picking your own fresh fruit off the vine is closer than you think. Hop over the bridges to NJ to pick your own or enjoy a variety of blueberry festivals and events.
